Building The Next Generation Of Timber Framers With Niagara College

Niagara College Collaborating with Niagara Sawmill for a Hammer Bent Timber Frame Project

We made a quick trip over to Niagara College to check out how our timbers were being put to work, and honestly, it was great to see. The students are in the middle of their Hammer Bent Timber Frame project, and watching them bring these frames to life gave us a whole new appreciation for the work happening inside that shop.

There’s something different about seeing your material actually being used. The instructors walked us through the builds, and right away you could tell the students were fully locked in. Layout lines everywhere. Mallets swinging. Joints slowly taking shape. It’s real hands on learning, not just a classroom demo.

Our timbers were stacked along the walls and already in various stages of joinery. Some were being chiseled down; others were fitted cleanly into place. You could see the confidence growing as each joint came together.

Alex Lukacs from Niagara College reached out to us for their Hammer Bent project because they needed solid, reliable timbers that could hold up to real joinery work.

For us, supplying the wood isn’t about making a big statement. It’s just a simple way to support something happening right here in our community. These students are building skills that will matter the second they step into the trades, and knowing our timbers are helping them learn the right way feels good.

Walking through the shop, hearing the tools, seeing the frames start to rise piece by piece–it’s the kind of thing that reminds you how important hands on training really is. These students are doing the real thing, full size, and they’re doing it well.

We’re proud to have our material in the mix and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished frame once everything is put together. If you’re running a project that needs dependable timbers, whether it’s for a class, a build, or anything in between, we’re always here to help.
